Step into this modern, light and welcoming farmhouse, where the essence of rural living meets contemporary design. Nestled on an expansive dairy farm in Omanawa, this stunning home designed by Jason MacDonald of JMAC Architecture epitomises a strong sense of warmth, whanau, and togetherness.

The folding roofline dips and rises in synchronisation with the majestic Kaimai Mamaku ranges that provide a breathtaking backdrop, and the home’s deliberate use of large, glazed sliders allows the “outdoors in”, which was important to our clients.

To achieve this sense of earthiness and bringing in natural tones and elements from the outdoors, designer Sophia Cole selected gorgeous dusty-green glazed tiles from the Tile Warehouse, which were colour-matched to Resene Double Stonewall, and applied to the Adorno Batten 25 panels featured in the kitchen, TV wall, entry and mudroom. The soft green hue applied in different mediums, creates a flow of striking features throughout the home, and helps to create that sense of natural calm indoors as well. In the kitchen, this soft dusty green has been paired with smoky brown stained American Oak by Bestwood, Sirrus black benching by Dekton, and other black accents such as the kitchen mixer by Robertson, cabinetry handles and feature WovenPanel by Archant, and black eco-granite sink by Archant.

The black accents are carried on throughout the home in the form of window joinery, Zucchetti tapware by Robertson, and elegant knob door hardware by Iver. To soften the sharp lines and bold accents, Sophia worked alongside Lisa at The Furnishing Room to select gorgeous fabrics for window treatments, the upholstery for the sunken lounge which Sophia designed herself using naturally-finished American Oak -  and the lush cushions which adorned the family seating, adding pops of colour.

Lastly, to tie in with the polished concrete flooring in main living areas, Sophia selected warm grey cut-pile carpeting in the bedrooms by Belgotex, which flowed through to the warm off-white tiles in the bathrooms by Tile Warehouse. The sunken lounge also features luxurious wool Galet carpeting by Bremworth, to amplify the feel of cosiness and togetherness.

“Every aspect of this home has been thoughtfully designed to enhance the connection to farmlands, creating a space that feels open and expansive yet intimate and inviting. Whether you're enjoying a meal in the spacious kitchen, gathering around the fireplace in the living room, or taking in the sunset from the deck, this modern farmhouse offers a lifestyle that celebrates the beauty of nature and the joy of family.” – Jason MacDonald of JMAC Architecture.
