Every now and then, you are lucky enough to be part of an extraordinary collaboration between creative, meticulous and deeply talented minds. This project was exactly that. We had the privilege of working alongside an exceptional architect, an outstanding builder and a client with a clear vision, who also had the rare ability to trust the team he engaged to bring that vision to life.

Designed before COVID, and built through lockdowns, floods and road closures, this home was a true test of patience and perseverance for the designer, builder and client alike. Yet the challenges only make the result more remarkable.

The finished home is a deliciously moody beachfront oasis in Pauanui. By day, the gentle coastal light draws you through the house, leading you toward breathtaking eastern beach views or into the intimate, sheltered courtyard to the west. Every space carries a quiet confidence, layered with texture and tranquillity. By night, with its carefully considered lighting, the home transforms into a dramatic retreat – a decadent haven for music, wine and effortless entertaining.

I am forever grateful to have worked with a client who trusted the process wholeheartedly and brought such a unique vision. That trust is reflected in every corner of this home, which now sits on the coastline with a calm, unassuming presence.
